Imphal, Sept. 26: SUWC (B) Irengbam put up their first win, defeating HTADC (A) Yurembam 3-2 in the 33rd Junior State Level Volleyball Tournament at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium today.
In a hard-earned victory, the SUWC (B) faced a tough challenge from HTADC but ultimately prevailed in the end.
In the other matches, LSKDA Lamphel beat NYVA Naorem while SYDC Santhel defeated HTADC (B) Yurembam and IGO Oinam outplayed RYC Moidangpok.
In the 12th mini category, KLYA Nambol defeated KYDC Kachikhul while SYDA Mutum Phibou overcame ICSA Irengbam.
KYSU (A) fought hard to defeat SUWC (B) Irengbam and KYSU (B) Kairenbikhok outplayed YDC Yurembam to move into the next round.
Body-building: Body-builder I. Deva Singh and Ak. Premchand Singh were selected to participate in the World Junior and Master Body-Building Championship, 2013 be held in Mongolia from October 24-28.
Arm-wrestling: More than 700 arm-wrestlers from across India will fight for the top honours in the 37th National Arm Sports Championship at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here from tomorrow till Sunday.
Tournament officials today said participants and officials from 14 states, out of a total of 22 states, who have confirmed participation, have landed here today and more state contingents were expected by tomorrow. The Assam Sports Association is organising the meet.
Events will be held in nine weight groups for men, seven for women, seven for junior boys and six for junior girls. Besides, there will be three weight categories for masters (above 40 years) and four for physically challenged participants.
Hosts Assam will be represented by a 64-member contingent. “We hope to reap a rich medals tally in the tournament,” said team manager Mukul Saikia.
The Indian contingent for the World Arm Sports Championship, to be held in November, will be selected from the tournament.
