Officials belonging to Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA) have launched a clean-up drive at Zone B of Belgarhia to begin construction of more flats for those displaced by an underground fire raging in the mining town for decades.
While officer Harish Pathak deployed a large contingent of policemen, JRDA officials, including rehabilitation and resettlement in-charge Gopal Ji, chief manager (civil) Sunil Dalela, Baliapur circle officer Vishal Kumar and BDO Prashant Kumar, supervised operations to clear the area.
They used earthmovers to clear the dense growth of shrubs and bushes till about 4pm on Thursday. Officials said the operation would continue till Friday.
Baliapur officer Vishal Kumar said talks had been held earlier with land losers to iron out differences. “Police were deputed at the site to avoid any untoward incident,” he explained.
JRDA’s Dalela said that the land had been acquired earlier. However, construction work on 7.54 acres was held up due to compensation protests by land losers.
Finally, the issue was settled with the intervention of Sindri MLA Rajkishor Mahto.
