Arjun Singh, the farmer from Rohtas who has turned into a champion for the state bird sparrow, has been recommended to be the brand ambassador of the environment and forests department.
On Tuesday, Rohtas divisional forest officer (DFO) Amit Kumar sent a team of department officials to Singh’s village Meraripur under the jurisdiction of Kalyanpur panchayat in Rohtas district to enquire about his efforts to protect sparrows. The team submitted a detailed report to the DFO on Wednesday.
Amit said: “I have sent a proposal to the environment and forests department to make Singh the brand ambassador for the Wildlife Week (in October) for his efforts to save the sparrow, which was recently declared as the state bird.”
A documentary would be made on the lifestyle of the farmer-turned-environmentalist. “The members of the team were amazed by Singh’s selfless service to save sparrows,” the DFO said.
He said he had sent a team to get the details about Singh after The Telegraph published a report on him in its August 19, 2013 edition.
