Kokrajhar, Sept. 25: Hosts Kokrajhar retained the title in the 17th women’s inter-district football championship, defeating Rangia 2-1 in the final at Magurmari Jilimili Club ground here today.
Jonali Boro put Rangia ahead with a 23rd minute goal and the visitors also managed to defend their castle safely throughout the first half.
However, the second session was an altogether different ball game with the defending champions coming back strongly to pump in two goals.
Ranjumoni Boro drew parity with a 54th minute goal and struck again in the 77th minute for the match-winning goal. Ranjumoni was named the Best Player for her consistent performance in the tournament.
Ringkhangsri Boro of Rangia was adjudged the Best Player of the final match, while Sukuntala Basumatary of Kokrajhar was named the Best Goalkeeper. All three were rewarded with Rs 1,000 each.
Hosted by Kokrajhar District Sports Association under the banner of Assam Football Association, a total of 13 teams from different parts of the state participated in the championship.
