Mumbai, Sept. 25: A fire broke out on the sets of a popular comedy show in Mumbai’s Film City this morning, destroying goods and equipment worth around Rs 20 crore.
No one was injured in the blaze, which started around 8.15am when the crew of Comedy Nights were preparing the set. “It was sparked by short-circuit. Nobody was hurt,” said a source in Colors, which plays Comedy Nights.
Sonakshi Sinha, who was to shoot in the studio for Rambo Rajkumar later in the day, was one of the first to tweet about the fire at 8.56am.
Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma, the host for Comedy Nights, was on a flight from Calcutta when the fire broke out. “We all are fine. Thanks for your concern.... Need your best wishes.. We will be back for all of you... love you all,” he later tweeted.
According to fire brigade sources, the crew initially tried to douse the flames but could not as only one of the two extinguishers was working.
“They had little at hand to fight the fire until we arrived 20 minutes later. By then, the damage had been done,” said P.S. Rahandale, the deputy chief of Mumbai fire brigade.
Four fire engines and five tankers put out the flames in 30 minutes.
Sources in Colors said clothes, lights and other equipment worth Rs 15 crore-Rs 20 crore were damaged.
“We are now focusing on resuming the shooting for our show. We won’t disappoint our viewers,” the spokesperson for Colors said.
This is the second time this year that a Colors set has been burnt down. On January 24, a fire gutted the sets of Bigg Boss Season 6.
