Both men and women outfits from Jharkhand retained their stellar form in the Tuesday evening fixtures of 18th East Zone Handball Championship in Patna.
While the menís team romped into the final, posting an emphatic 27-12 victory against Manipur, the women made it to semi-finals by prevailing over Bengal to clinch a 9-6 win.
Jharkhand men dominated the match against Manipur from the outset.
S. Azhar, with 12 goals in his kitty, was the top scorer for the state team. Gautam Kumar and Md Shahid contributed with eight and four goals, respectively. Steel city player Md Wasi netted two goals in the match.
The women outfit, however, had to contest fiercely with their counterparts from Bengal to win.
Jharkhand clung on to a slender one-point lead (5-4) at half-time. On the other side of the breather, Team Jharkhand changed tactics to score vital points and finish winners.
Nutan Kumar, Shivangi Kumari, Noor Saba and Rinky Kumari each netted two goals to propel their team into the semi-finals.
Earlier on the same day, the eves from Jharkhand had thrashed Assam 18-8 to advance into the quarter-finals.
Noor Saba displayed outstanding accuracy to score 6 goals. Her teammates also pitched in with some brilliant support. While Shivangi managed to net four of her attacks, Nutan and Roshni scored three goals each.
