Okay, the Sensex is growling worse than your boss, gold prices are making wannabe brides faint and a kilo of onions costs the better part of a 100-rupee note.
Still, Ranchi has some festive surprises up its sleeve to combat the inflation demon during the run-up to the festive season.
If you are a student and want the Mahi Mohawk, here’s a steal of a deal. Just produce your ID card at any of the two Calvin and Hobbes outlets in Ranchi — Circular Road and Capitol Hill — and get the punk bald-meets-mane look for Rs 99.
You even get the one rupee coin back.
“We’re offering male students a hairstyle of their choice for Rs 99. We need to see their student ID card as proof, of course. Normally, we charge between Rs 170 and Rs 180 for haircuts for men,” said Anant Kumar, manager at Calvin and Hobbes, Capitol Hill branch on Main Road.
College girls, who normally shell out Rs 730, will also get haircuts for Rs 399.
“The offers have started two days back and will continue till Diwali,” said Kumar.
Buying a car during a slump can also be the smartest decision you make.
Auto dealers are also making special efforts to woo you.
“We’re offering Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 as discount on the purchase of Mahindra Scorpio and Bolero. The pre-Puja offer started on September 20 and will end on September 30. Soon, we expect new discount offers right up to Diwali,” said Rajiv Jha, manger at Nexgen Solutions, a Mahindra vehicle dealer at Dhurwa.
“Puja offers may come with gifts such as cellphones and watches,” he added.
But if you’re a pet puja guy — the way to festive feel-good is through your stomach — scout the city eateries to see the tasty deals on offer.
“We are offering 20 per cent discount during our South Indian food festival that we have launched, which will end on September 30. For Puja, we may come out with another set of offers,” said an official of Hotel Le Lac, situated near Line Tank Talab.
For youngsters who want a high without a hangover, Bacardi Breezers will be big this festive season. “We have brought Bacardi Breezers to the city in four flavours,” said Arun Chawla, owner of Jharkhand Wine Shop.
