Guwahati, Sept. 24: A hattrick by Jwngbla Brahma helped Assam make it to the semi-finals of the junior national football championship beating hosts Jharkhand 5-1 in their last group league encounter in Ranchi today.
Brahma opened the account with a brace in the 25th and 30th minutes and Lalramnghak enhanced it with one in the 40th minute.
Brahma struck again in the 65th minute to make it 4-0 before Paulzarzolien fired in one in the 70th minute.
Assam had earlier defeated Delhi 4-0 and held Tamil Nadu to a goalless draw in the other group league matches.
Brahma had netted two goals against Delhi, too.
“The Jharkhand side comprised several players from the Tata Football Academy and our side’s victory against local opponents there is quite encouraging. It is the same Jharkhand team that pumped in seven goals against Tamil Nadu,” Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta said here today.
A number of players in the Assam team were also members of last year’s national champion sub-junior team.
