Guwahati, Sept. 24: Betkuchi High School annexed the Airtel Rising Star school football tournamentís Guwahati leg title blanking Shankar Madhav School 3-0 in the final at Nehru Stadium here today.
Betkuchi, who will represent the state in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup national school football tournament in Delhi from tomorrow, dominated the proceedings right from the word go and Nayanjyoti Kuli pumped in two goals in the same half.
Kuli opened the account in the 12th minute before ruffling the net for his second goal with the power-packed long ranger from the midfield in the 41st minute. Birkwdao Daimari found the net for the third goal in the 49th minute.
Conceding three goals, the Shankar Madhab boys launched a series of attacks in the second half to keep the opponents pinned onto the backfoot.
From the tournament, four players, including a goalkeeper, were picked to be among the 30-odd probables from across the country to participate in the final selection of the Indian team at Goa a month later to travel to Manchester United Club.
The selected players are goalkeeper Dipjyoti Pathak of Maloibari High School, Suraj Basumatary of AKSH Institute, North Guwahati, Nayanjyoti Kuli of Betkuchi High School and Lakhyajyoti Boro of Pragjyotish English School.
Besides, seven players from various teams in the tournament were felicitated for their outstanding show in the Guwahati leg of the tournament. They include Yadav Sarma, Rahul Boro, Nayanjyoti Kuli, Kishore Das, Samudra Boro, Rakesh Boro and Suraj Basumatary.
