Tezpur, Sept. 24: Tirap police in Arunachal Pradesh have solved a case of highway robbery that took place last month.
The prime accused, identified as NSCN (Khaplang) cadres Matlan Khetey of Borduria village and Monglat Akhang of New Laptang village, were arrested during raids on their hideouts near Lingdongthong village early this morning.
The raids were conducted following last night’s arrest of the driver who had assisted them to hide the vehicle they had stolen. The vehicle has also been recovered.
Tirap superintendent of police Vikramjit Singh said unknown criminals had attacked the driver of a Bolero, which was being used on hire by the army headquarters in Khonsa, on August 26 night.
The driver, Ajay Gurung, was taking the vehicle back to Tinsukia from Khonsa when the goons assaulted him with iron rods on Nokfan road and left him critically injured near the Tiru river.
Fortunately he survived and was brought to Deomali police station by a passerby.
He was then shifted to Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh.
The assailants took the vehicle but were unable to cross the Hukanjuri checkgate.
They then took the help of a driver and hid it deep inside the forest near Bogapani.
