Kokrajhar, Sept. 23: Kokrajhar and Rangia won their respective matches to storm into the finals of the 17th Senior Women’s inter-district football championship here today.
In the semi-finals played at two different venues in the town, defending champions and hosts Kokrajhar blanked Baksa 7-0 while Rangia defeated Dibrugarh 3-0.
In the first match at Balukjhora ground, Kokrajhar girls displayed fine football, dominating the opposition that saw them net seven goals in quick succession.
Runumoni Brahma scored three goals in the ninth, 70th and 78th minutes while Kabita Wary and Bijuli Basumatary scored a brace each in the sixth and 29th minutes and 11th and 75th minutes respectively for Kokrajhar.
In the other semi-final at Balajan Tinali ground, Rangia defeated Dibrugarh 3-0. Raudur Boro, Purmina Boro and Jitu Boro scored a goal each for Rangia in the eighth, 15th and 27th minutes respectively.
The final will be played between Kokrajhar and Rangia at Magurmari Jilimili Club ground on Wednesday.
Organised by Kokrajhar District Sports Association, the meet is featuring 13 teams from different parts of the state.
Badminton: Ph. Rahul Sharma moved into the third round beating M. Gyaneshor 21-14, 21-11 in the Boys’ Singles under-15 category in the 58th State Open Badminton Championship at MBA indoor stadium.
In another match, M. Meiraba beat Rk. Martin 21-6, 21-8 to move into third round as well.
Volleyball: The Inter-Village Volleyball championship got under way today at the Bijni Stadium in Chirang district.
