Shyam Sunder Agarwal, the chairman and managing director of the Srijan Group and N.K. Realtors, has taken over as president of Hindusthan Club for 2013-14.
“It was a good and competitive election,” Agarwal said after winning the poll at 67th annual general meeting of the Sarat Bose Road club.
“When I met the members I could feel an undercurrent of support for my candidature. They believed in my commitments. People want some serious changes now. So the first and foremost thing is to upgrade the club’s facilities. We would also focus on image and brand building and… sports.”
Ram Krishna Agarwal, a member of the executive committees of the CII and Indian Chamber of Commerce and former director of Ernst & Young, took on S.S. Agarwal for the post of president. “People wanted Shyam as president but they wanted our team. We won 13 of the 21 seats. I have no regrets.”
Only 1,551 of the 2,425 members of the club turned up to vote.
“It was a peaceful election. The voting continued for three hours,” said Shiv Kumar Lohia, the honorary secretary for the second term in a row. Gaurang Y. Bhatt is the new vice-president and H.K. Singhania honorary treasurer.
