Calcutta: Having looked patchy so far in the season, McDowell Mohun Bagan would look to right the wrongs when they start their I-League campaign against debutants Bangalore FC, on Sunday, at the new-look Bangalore Football Stadium.
Bagan go into this game after playing out two consecutive draws, that too, against minnows, in the CFL Premier Division. No wonder Karim Bencharifa feels the results are a wake-up call. “Those two games were wake-up calls for our side. But at the same time, I will not agree that we played badly,” the coach said.
Bagan would obviously have liked Okolie Odafe’s presence in their line-up especially when the rivals feature someone of the stature of Sunil Chetri and Robin Singh in their ranks.
Apart from Odafe, Bagan would also miss the injured Manish Bhargav, while winger Anthony Pereira has been released because of monetary issues between the player and the club.
Eric Muranda and CS Sabeeth are likely to start in the upfront, while a lot depends on how Katsumi Yusa performs as a withdrawn striker.
