Ranchi, Sept. 21: A 33-year-old man was shot dead near Ghosh Petrol Pump in Kanta Toli Chowk of the state capital this morning in what police termed as the outcome of a bitter rivalry between two agents, who used to look after operations of some private buses.
Victim Sarik Ansari was sitting in a bus, Chanchal Bus, when some people pulled him out and shot four rounds.
He took the bullets in his chest and stomach. Bystanders immediately took him to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Later, Sarik’s brother Shabir lodged a complaint at Lower Bazar police station, accusing five, Mohammed Kamal, Ehsan, Munna, Rinku and Raj, of the murder.
Superintendent of police (city) Manoj Ratan said Sarik had a fight with Kamal, another bus agent operating from Kanta Toli bus stand, yesterday evening.
“Kamal had hit Sarik’s vehicle last evening, triggering a fist fight between the two. Later, Sarik’s men allegedly set a bus, which Kamal used to look after, on fire. Kamal’s men returned this morning to settle the score with Sarik and killed him,” said Ratan, elaborating on the background story.
Sources claimed Kamal and Sarik had been vying for capturing the market for some time now.
“Earlier, too, the due indulged into such brawls. But, this time, it crossed all limits,” said a bus driver of Kanta Toli.
Officer-in-charge of Lower Bazar police station Pramod Pandey said after the yesterday’s incident, an FIR was lodged and four persons from both the groups were arrested.
“This was uncalled for. Police had swung into action and were probing the matter. They should not have taken law into their hands,” Pandey said.
He said the accused were absconding and police were carrying out raids to nab them.
