Calcutta, Sept. 21: The Trinamul leadership today initiated disciplinary action against MPs Kunal Ghosh, Satabdi Roy and Tapas Pal for alleged anti-party comments.
Trinamul all-India general secretary Mukul Roy said at a media conference in Calcutta: “The disciplinary committee has issued showcause notices. The party will wait till the MPs reply. Action will be taken accordingly.”
Sources said the issue would be settled by September 30.
“A suspension order could have been issued but Mamata Banerjee wants to give them a chance to plead their case,” a Trinamul source said.
A section of Trinamul leaders accused Diamond Harbour MP Somen Mitra of fanning dissent in the party. Mitra and his wife Sikha, the Trinamul MLA from Chowringhee, had organised a blood donation camp where the three MPs made the statements yesterday.
“The person pulling the strings from behind remained silent. None of these three MPs has any understanding of realpolitik and see how they have embarrassed themselves and the party,” a senior Trinamul leader said.
Ghosh said he would reply to the showcause notice after receiving it.
“If things go on like this, I will have to open my mouth,” Ghosh said after emerging from a four-hour interrogation session at the Bidhannagar city police headquarters today. Bidhannagar police, who are probing the Saradha case, had summoned him today.
“I will co-operate with the investigation,” he said, iterating what he had said yesterday at the blood donation camp.
Some officers said they were surprised at the “sudden” summons to Ghosh. The police had called him in connection with non-payment of salaries and provident fund dues to employees of Tara TV, which was part of the Saradha media basket, a case in which the police have already filed a chargesheet.
