Imphal, Sept. 19: North Eastern Reorganising and Cultural Association (NEROCA) registered their first win, defeating Zomi Football Club by 4-1 goals in the eighth Manipur State League Football Tournament at Khuman Lampak main stadium here today.
After settling for a 1-1 draw against Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) in their first match, the win helped NEROCA garner four points while Zomi Football Club have three from two matches.
Desperate for a win, the North Eastern outfit played hard and L. Ibungobi drew first blood, capitalising on a defensive lapse from Zomi FC inside the penalty zone in the 11th minute.
Zomi FC, fresh from their win, counter attacked and finally got the equaliser in the 28th minute with a Hangsonpau header off a flagkick.
However, H. Chakravorti struck for NEROCAís second goal in the 36th minute to make it 2-1 in the first half.
The second half also proved fruitful for the North Eastern team with Kh. Sanjoy striking in the 61st minute and Chakravorti finding the back of the net in the 88th minute.
Referee I. Rabichandra booked North Eastern player Kh. Sanjoy and Zomi FC player Mangkholen Kipgen with a yellow card.
In another match, Anouba Imagi Mangal defeated Kuki Sporting Club 4-2 to stay atop with six points while Kuki SC have three from two matches.
K. Rocky (1st and 42nd minutes), Ch. Kishan (60th minute) and Th. Vandona (77th minute) scored for Anouba.
Kuki Sporting Club relied on Thomaskhup Komís two goals in the 21st and 38th minutes.
Kuki players Jimreye Kom, Hanglen Max, Thangminglal Gangte and Anouba Imagi player K. Rocky were cautioned by the referee.
Around 750 players have reached Imphal for the 6th National Senior Taekwondo Poomsae Championship to be held the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium from September 20-22.
