Ranchi police claim to have made headway in the September 12 shooting in Doranda that left St Xavier’s College student Bhavesh Lodha dead.
Addressing a news conference on Thursday, city SP Manoj Ratan said the culprits would be unmasked soon. “Right now, I am not in a position to give you further details (for the sake of investigations). But, we have a lead and hope to produce the accused in a day or two,” he said.
Ratan also confirmed that the death of Central Academy student Vidhisha Roy (14) was a case of suicide and not murder as claimed by family members. Vidisha had been found hanging in her hostel room on September 13.
“Though parents of the girl registered a murder case (at Bariatu police station), pointing a finger at the school management, post-mortem report from RIMS suggest that she hanged herself. The report also did not support the rape claim,” the SP said.
Police on Thursday also busted a con ring, arresting three frauds. “Ganesh Sharma, Kisto Lohar and Yogendra Mahto promised people jobs in a fictitious firm and duped them into giving them money. The trio have been arrested from Tupudana with Rs 64,000 in cash,” Ratan said.
In a separate case, three robbers — Afroz Ansari, Imroz Ansari and Pappu — were also arrested from Tupudana. While Afroz and Imroz were wanted in a loot case at Kozari Hill, Pappu was wanted in Siladon. A 9mm pistol with three rounds were found on them.
