Imphal, Sept. 18: Manipur Police Sports Club notched up their first win, defeating Tiddim Road Athletic Union by a solitary goal in the eighth Manipur state leagueplayed at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
The win came as a welcome respite for the policemen, who lost their first match by 0-3 goals to defending champions Southern Sporting Union.
Manipur Police Sports Club, without their star forward Nilakumar Singh who had opted to play for NISA this season, had to toil hard like their opponent Tiddim Road, who failed to click either in attack or defence.
The first half proved to be a barren affair.
However, the policemen took the initiative in the 89th minute after Ksh. Kanta Singh made a long clearance from the centre and Tiddim Road keeper Ch. Kumar Singh fumbled, enabling Nilakanta Singh to push home the winning goal.
In another match, Southern Sporting Union boosted their image with their second straight victory defeating United Sporting Association by 1-0 goal.
Riyash Khan proved to be the trump card as he slammed home in the 20th minute for the victory.
In yesterday’s matches, Zomi Football Club defeated Tiddim Road Unique Gamy Players Union by 1-0 goal with Ngulkhosian fetching the winner in the 10th minute.
Anouba Imagi Mangal got the better of NISA by 2-1 goals. Th. Shanker and Ngamneiring Kom scored for Anouba Imagi while Nilakumar scored for NISA.
Women’s football: O. Bembem Chanu scored the winner for Manipur Police Sports Club, who defeated Kangchup Road Youth Physical Sporting Association in the inaugural match of the seventh L. Sunitibala Devi Memorial Senior Women’s Football League Tournament played at YWC Malom ground.
