Chandigarh: Otago Volts captain Brendon McCullum, who scored an unbeaten 83 off 65 balls to guide them to victory, praised his teammates for a collective effort after their win over the Faisalabad Wolves.
“It was a good opportunity for everyone in the team. All of them contributed,” said McCullum after the match.
Wolves captain Misbah-ul Haq admitted that they were a bit unsettled because of off-field issues, but they need to adapt quickly.
The following are excerpts
Brendon McCullum: The wicket was a really nice one to bat on. There was good pace and bounce and the ball was coming on to the bat very nicely. The pitch was more like the New Zealand or Australian wickets rather than those in the subcontinent.
It is great to get such a result and begin the qualifiers with a win. We were able to stand up in some of the key moments of the match. It was a good opportunity for everyone in the team. All of them contributed to the win.
Very satisfying in the end but we still have a long way to go. We need to play in the same vein in the next couple of matches as well.
The last time we played in the qualifiers, we were very close but couldn’t make it. We are looking forward to making amends this time around.
Misbah-ul Haq: It was a very nice pitch to bat on. The bounce was never a problem. I think they bowled really well. We didn’t make a good start. We were at least 25-30 runs short. It’s not a problem for us if I come in at No. 5. We have some talented players batting up the order. We have just have to adjust better and quickly.
Yes we were a bit unsettled before the match. There were some issues with our visas. Moreover, while most of my teammates were coming directly from Pakistan, some of us had to come from Zimbabwe.
