Jaipur, Sept. 17: A woman has accused Rajasthan food and civil supplies minister Babu Lal Nagar of raping her after calling her to his house on the pretext of giving a job.
The police today lodged an FIR against Nagar on the orders of a court. The woman had filed a complaint before the chief judicial magistrate in Jaipur on September 13.
Bhawani Singh, the station house officer of Sodala police station where the FIR has been filed, said: “The case has been lodged under Section 323 and Section 376 and will now be investigated by the CID, civil, as the minister is an MLA.”
Section 323 deals with voluntarily causing hurt and Section 376 with rape.
Singh said the woman has alleged that the minister called her on September 11 to his house in the afternoon as he had promised her a job. She reached the house around 5pm. Nobody else was there other than Nagar, who had even promised to give jobs to the woman’s relatives.
Nagar allegedly took her to his room raped her and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed anything.
Nagar, a three-time MLA who has earlier been accused of threatening a BJP worker, denied the allegation of rape.
He said the charge was a conspiracy to malign his reputation before elections. He said the day the woman claimed she came to visit him, there were around 300 people in his house and his family.
Nagar is the second minister in the Ashok Gehlot government to get embroiled in sexual assault case.
Mahipal Maderna, accused of murdering nurse Bhanwari Devi after having a relationship with her, is currently in jail.
