The city police on Monday arrested four members of a gang that used to rob inter-state truck drivers by brandishing a knife on NH-33.
Sajid Ansari, Riyaz Ansari, Mohammed Nausahd Alam and Mohammed Irshad Alam, aged between 20 and 25, were picked up from their homes in the state capital. A khukri used to threaten the victims, two mobile phones and Rs 1,500 cash were recovered from them.
Confirming the arrests, SP (traffic) Rajeev Ranjan Singh, who holds additional charge of SP (rural), said: “A team of Nakmum police made the breakthrough acting on a tip-off. This gang was involved in at least three robberies whose complaints were lodged at the thana,” he said.
A manhunt is on for another member of the gang, he added.
On September 9, the four had robbed Varun Kumar, a driver from Faridabad, and Shravan Singh, his assistant, of Rs 4,500 near High Tension Insulator Factory. On August 28, the quartet had taken away Rs 10,000 from Vikram Verma and his helper Suresh of Agra.
