Bangalore: All eyes will be on Yuvraj Singh when he leads the India A side in the limited overs series against the West Indies A side, starting here, on Saturday.
India A are on a roll after demolishing New Zealand A in their last series. The feat was achieved under the captaincy of Unmukt Chand, who marshalled his resources perfectly.
Yuvraj, who has been out of favour in recent times, will thus have a reputation to live up to. It will be keenly scrutinised how he marshals his resources, especially with a weak pace attack after the injured Irfan Pathan and Praveen Kumar were ruled out.
Yuvraj is more often seen as a brutal force in limited overs format than in Tests with his ability to hit the ball clean and long. The left-handed batsman, who battled and won over cancer, would be aiming to get back into the reckoning.
Apart from Yuvraj, India A has their share of stars. Unmukt has scored 164 runs at an average of 48 with 94 being his highest in the three ODIs against New Zealand A. Unmukt would look to continue his good work and give his side a fine start.
India A’s other opener Robin Uthappa has also scored a century in the lung-opener against New Zealand A.
Uthappa would be hoping to produce another sparkling show if he wants to catch the selectors’ attention given that India are scheduled to play limited overs series against West Indies and South Africa in the coming months.
Yuvraj will be hoping for Uthappa and Chand to dazzle in the opening ODI to give a boost to the middle-order, which came good in the last two ODIs against New Zealand A with the likes of Kedar Jadhav and Mandeep Singh rising to the occasion.
