Calcutta: The Indian Football Association (IFA) has promised to finish the CFL Premier Division Championship Round by the third week of December.
At a media conference, on Friday, IFA secretary Utpal Ganguli said: “We have the fixtures ready. The CFL will end by the third week of December. We are confident about that.” The IFA drew flak for dragging the CFL till mid-May for the last few seasons, which took a toll on the smaller clubs.
Speaking during the announcement of a seven-year tie-up with Jalsha Movies for telecast of CFL Premier Division matches, Ganguli said: “As of now, we are releasing the first phase of the fixtures. The next two phases will be released by next month.”
The first phase doesn’t have any match in the Maidan, but Ganguli said that East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting would play matches at their home grounds. Ganguli added that matches in the Maidan would have a 2pm kick-off. Last Sunday, East Bengal’s match against Kalighat MS was abandoned due to poor light after IFA were stubborn in refusing to bring forward the 4pm kick-off time.
