Calcutta: Striker Eric Muranda, who signed up for Mohun Bagan on Friday, is expected to play a part during the team’s CFL Premier Division Super XII match against George Telegraph, at the Barasat Stadium, on Saturday.
With coach Karim Bencharifa deciding to rest C.S. Sabeeth, who has a tight groin, there is a very good chance of the former Kenya under-23 forward getting a feel of things.
Sabeeth scored twice in the first match against Railway FC. “I am not going to risk Sabeeth tomorrow.
“We have two important I-League matches coming up and by playing Sabeeth on Saturday, there’s every chance of the injury getting aggravated,” Karim said after a practice session at the club ground, on Friday.
Bagan open their I-League campaign with an away match against Bangalore FC, on September 22, and then travel to Goa for a clash with reigning champions Churchill Brothers.
Karim’s decision to rest Sabeeth is absolutely right since his main striker Okolie Odafe, will not be available for the first three matches of the I-League. The Bagan captain suffered a tear in the quadriceps muscle during a practice session earlier this month.
“The I-League is always at the back of my mind. I have to use my resources judiciously in the CFL matches,” Karim added.
Like Sabeeth, Karim will also not play Aiborlang Khongjee, who is nursing a hamstring injury. “I have a strong enough squad… So these minor injuries to the players are not bothering me that much,” the Moroccan made it clear.
