Islampur, Sept. 13: A teacher of a school in Islampur subdivision filed a police complaint last night alleging molestation by a clerk of the institution.
Sources said Dhiren Biswas, the accused clerk of Nandajhar High School in Goalpokhor, 20km from here, allegedly misbehaved with the woman when she was in the teachers’ room yesterday.
Biswas is a local CPM leader.
“I was sitting in the teachers’ room when the clerk came in, abused me verbally and dragged me out of the chair,” the teacher has said in her complaint.
“The person is known for his bad behaviour in the school and on several other occasions, he has misbehaved with other teachers, particularly lady teachers,” the woman has stated.
The teacher, who was taken to the Islampur subdivisional hospital and administered first aid, said she had suffered injuries in her limbs during the attack.
“When I decided to file a police complaint, the clerk threatened me with dire consequences. He said if I lodge a complaint, I would not be allowed to work in the school. I am feeling very insecure and I want necessary action to be taken against him,” the schoolteacher wrote in her complaint.
She has also sent a complaint to the district inspector of schools of North Dinajpur seeking his intervention.
The teacher, a resident of Islampur, takes a bus or a trekker to the school everyday.
“The accused clerk might attack her in the school or on the way as he has already issued threats and the police are not doing anything,” said another teacher of the school.
Nandajhar High School is a co-educational institution with around 2,200 students and 25 teachers.
Today, all the schoolteachers boycotted classes, protesting the incident.
Ruma Chanda, the headmistress, said: “The teacher has filed a complaint with the police and also the DI. We are looking into the case. We would like to assure everyone that the security of the teachers would not be compromised at any point.”
Biswas, the accused, said he had been framed for political gains. “I am not guilty of any such act. It is entirely a political conspiracy to frame me,” he said.
A senior police officer said: “We have received a complaint from the teacher. Investigations are in progress.”
Members of the Trinamul Siksha Cell in Islampur would organise a public meeting in town tomorrow protesting the the incident.
