Kokrajhar, Sept. 13: BTC executive member in-charge of the education department, Derhasat Basumatary, today laid the foundation of a model school at Owabari village in Kokrajhar district.
The school is being built under the Rastriya Madhaymik Siksha Abhijan, Assam. The Union human resource development ministry will fund the construction of the school building, which is estimated to cost of Rs 3.62 crore. The PWD will look after the construction.
Basumatary said the school will have a capacity for 260 students and classes from VI to XII. Classes are expected to start from next year. He said the BTC administration will build 10 model schools and 11 girls’ hostels. The model schools will be managed by central agencies for free.
BTC education director Rabi Shankar Borgoyary, BTC member from Baukhungri seat Doneswar Goyary, PWD council head Rajesh Kemprai and district elementary education officer R.K. Choudhury were present at the function.
