Silchar, Sept. 12: The Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium here is set to get a multipurpose indoor hall added to it very soon.
The Union ministry of youth affairs and sports has sanctioned Rs 6.2 crore under the Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme to build the hall. Architect Ashish Kumar Gupta and District Sports Association, Silchar general secretary Babul Hore jointly prepared the project and sent it for approval of the Union ministry earlier this year.
It was followed up by state sports minister Ajit Singh and deputy director of sports Jatin Borchetia to get it approved.
According to sources, when the Silchar project was being submitted, Titabar, too, sent a similar kind of project proposal for approval of the ministry concerned and chief minister Tarun Gogoi had personally endorsed it but was not considered eventually.
Talking to The Telegraph, Hore said, “We prepared and sent this proposal to the ministry concerned in 2012 too, but could not secure the ministry’s nod then. This year, we prepared it in a better way and we tasted success, thanks to the help of sports minister Ajit Singh.”
The ministry approved a total number of six projects for the Northeast and Nagaland alone bagged three of these.
