Patna, Sept. 12: Once a diehard follower of Lal Krishna Advani, former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi’s tweet last night revealed the growing isolation of the party patriarch and the state BJP’s complete shift of loyalty to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.
Considered an Advani man, he tweeted: “Advaniji has failed to gauge the public mood. Advaniji himself declared Atalji as PM candidate, now also he could have done the same for NaMo.”
His earlier tweet was even more caustic. “Politics is the only profession in which people aspire till their last. Ministerial berth can resurrect a dead politician?” it stated.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Modi said: “Advaniji has been our mentor and supreme leader. We all owe our present position to him. It was he who created the second line of leadership. But we have toured more than 25 districts of Bihar in connection with our Viswasghat (treachery) rallies. People waited for hours to listen to us. Not only the BJP workers and sympathisers, the common masses want Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate. The delay in announcing his name is causing misgivings among the people.”
He insisted that his other tweet had no relation with the tweet mentioning Advani. “I had written it on politicians in general,” he said.
The tweet of Sushil Kumar Modi found support from several senior BJP leaders, including the Leader of the Opposition, Nand Kishore Yadav, and the national vice-president of the BJP, Dr C.P. Thakur.
Slogans in favour of Narendra Modi also reverberated at a BJP function organised today to welcome former Union minister and Congress leader Desai Choudhary to the party.
