Siliguri, Sept. 11: Two Congress representatives at the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad today joined Trinamul, rendering the Congress without any member in the CPM-run rural body.
Anjalika Kuzur and Prerana Singha were formally inducted to Trinamul here today.
“All the three members in opposition are with us. The Congress does not have a single representative in the rural body,” north Bengal development minister Gautam Deb said after giving Trinamul flags to Kuzur and Singha.
Congress’s Ainul Haque, leader of Opposition at the Parishad, had joined Trinamul last week.
Some other Congress leaders from Naxalbari and Phansidewa blocks also joined Trinamul today.
District Congress leaders, however, sounded nonchalant.
“It is true that some of them are elected representatives but they were never active in the party and their respective areas,” Shankar Malakar, the Darjeeling district Congress president said.
