Ranchi, Sept. 11: Jharkhand lokayukta Amreshwar Sahay today recommended FIRs against five government officials for depriving farmers of Barkagaon, Hazaribagh, of crop insurance under the Rashtriya Fasal Yojana.
Tandwa circle officer Gopal Krishna Kunwar, Hazaribagh co-operative officer Ravi Shankar Pandey, district co-operative extension officer Yogendra Poddar, Barkagaon branch manager of Co-operative Bank Umesh Kumar Singh and former president of Primary Area Co-operative Society, Gondalpura (Barkagaon) Umesh Kumar Yadav have allegedly duped 40 farmers in the name of providing insurance for their standing crops.
Sahay’s secretary Deepak Kumar said a complaint had been lodged by one Nand Kumar Mahto, a resident of Gondalpura in Barkagaon block of Hazaribagh.
“Though insurance premiums were paid by these farmers, their names were deleted from the list of beneficiaries. In addition, against a regular insurance premium of Rs 80 per acre, farmers were charged anything between Rs 110 and Rs 120 per acre,” he added.
The lokayukta has asked principal secretary (personnel, administration and rajbhasha) to start departmental proceedings against circle officer Kunwar.
The state co-operative department has been directed to do the same against the rest four.
