Dengue test results will be available via SMS on the very day a person gives his/her blood sample at civic health clinics in the city.
The Calcutta Municipal Corporation introduced the SMS alert on Wednesday. The facility will be available at 141 malaria detection centres across Calcutta and five dengue-testing centres run by the civic body at Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, Baghajatin, Behala, Hatibagan and Chetla.
Blood samples collected from the malaria clinics are sent to these five centres for the dengue test.
Chief municipal health officer A.K. Mukherjee said patients were required to provide their mobile phone number to avail themselves of the facility. “As soon as the test result is obtained from the laboratory, it is sent through SMS to the given number. On an average 35 to 40 samples are tested daily at the clinics during monsoon. It takes six hours to know the result of an Elisa test.”
CMC records state that between January and September 10 this year, 55 positive cases have been detected.
