Guwahati, Sept. 10: Green Valley Sports Club (SC) thrashed Sunrise Athletic Club (AC) 4-0 in their last championship round match of the Abhishek Motors R.G. Baruah Trophy Guwahati Super Division Football League at the Nehru Stadium here today.
Green Valley dominated the proceedings right from the word go while Sunrise AC failed to produce anything special in the absence of their foreign recruits as well as their regular coach Bidhan Das.
It didn’t take long for Green Valley to open the account through skipper Michael Lucky Kelechukwu who found the net in the 19th minute. Nigerian recruit Babatunde Ayomide Badmus, having received a fine pass from Kelechukwu from the edge of the box, ensured a two-goal lead for his side in the 25th minute.
Green Valley players continued with their frequent attempts to score with every passing minute. It was in the 43rd minute that Sunrise conceded the third goal as Shabir Ali went on to score his second goal of the league. Ali making his way past the opposition defenders, struck from inside the box to leave Sunrise AC custodian Lahen Narzary gaping.
With the start of the second half, there was no change in Green Valley’s intentions as their inroads continued to trouble the opposition defenders. Babatunde Ayomide Badmus seeing an advancing Sunrise custodian set the ball for substitute Ronald Singh whose gentle tap was enough to make it 4-0.
With the win, Green Valley have finished their campaign with 18 points from 10 matches of which they won five and drew three.
