Aizawl, Sept. 10: The 12-hour statewide strike called by the Mizo National Front from 5am today, seeking resignation of state health minister Lalrinliana Sailo, disrupted normal life here and the seven other district headquarters.
Government offices, educational institutions and business establishments remained closed. The MNF has been demanding Sailo’s resignation for his alleged involvement in drug smuggling and the issue of drug supply licences to his minor son.
MNF president Zoramthanga had termed the issue “an instance of serious corrupt practices by the health minister”. Mizoram chief minister Lalthanhawla rejected the MNF’s demand, dismissing the allegations as baseless. Aizawl district superintendent of police L.R. Dingliana Sailo said no untoward incident was reported.
The MNF said the strike was also against rise in prices of essential commodities and the state’s dilapidated roads.
