New Delhi, Sept. 10: A news channel owned by a purported Sangh parivar sympathiser is under the scanner following the violence in Muzaffarnagar, sources in the I&B ministry said.
“We are examining the content aired by Sudarshan News during the past few weeks…. If the content is found to be dangerous and instigating in nature, we will definitely take action against the channel,” a senior official in the ministry said.
Ministry sources said several complaints had been received in the past few days alleging video clips shown by the Noida-based Hindi broadcaster were fanning communal violence in western Uttar Pradesh and that its broadcast should be stopped.
The National Media Monitoring Centre has been asked to provide video clips of recent programmes.
On the website www.sanghparivar.org, Sudarshan News is described as “a nationalist and social channel”. Officials of the channel could not be contacted for comment.
