Former players and officials of various sports associations have come together to ensure a level-playing field for all.
They have come up with a campaign called Save Jharkhand Sports to help players get their dues, protest against the excesses of sports associations and maintain the true spirit of all games.
The campaign will start on Wednesday with a daylong dharna at Morabadi grounds, Ranchi. The members will protest against Jharkhand State Cricket Association’s (JSCA) decision to sack some office-bearers and members of Ranchi District Cricket Association, Latehar District Cricket Association and former Ranji all-rounder Jittu Patel.
“We appeal to sportspersons and sports lovers to protest against the highhandedness of JSCA. We will fight a legal battle against the state cricket association under the banner of Save Jharkhand Sports,” said Sunil Kumar Singh, convener of the campaign.
Singh, the former secretary of Ranchi District Cricket Association who was also shown the door, claimed that besides expelling office-bearers and members randomly, JSCA committed financial irregularities in construction of the new stadium in Ranchi and conducted its elections in an unconstitutional manner.
Singh said they would also bat for sportspersons, who have been victimised by sports outfits. “We will help them get due benefits. We also want all outfits to maintain transparency and follow democratic principles,” Singh said.
