Calcutta: In a major blow to Australia’s fast bowling arsenal, especially before the return Ashes series Down Under, Mitchell Starc has been ruled out for a prolonged period due to a back stress fracture.
“Starc had scans following his arrival back to Australia and they have shown an early stage low back stress fracture. His management plan will be determined in the coming days but he is expected to be unavailable for a prolonged period,” Cricket Australia (CA) medical officer Justin Paoloni said in a statement, on Monday.
The left-arm pacer went through a rather frustrating tour of England, unable to make the impact that was expected of him. Starc played in the first, third and fifth Tests of the five-match series, while he was dropped for the second and fourth.
Starc joins Aussie pacers James Pattinson and Pat Cummins, both of whom have also been sidelined due to back injuries.
