Silchar, Sept. 9: The Supreme Cour t has granted bail to former Cachar zila parishad chief executive officer (CEO) Banhishikha Dutta.
Judge Chandramouli Kumar Prasad and Justice Curien Joseph granted Dutta bail on September 2.
“We have not receive the official copy of court orders yet,” SP (border) Dhruva Bora said.
Dutta was charged with acquiring public money through illegitimate means.
Sources said she had withdrawn Rs 1.5 crore from the zila parishad account on the eve of her retirement.
Gauhati High Court had rejected her bail plea on May 15.
Dutta then appealed to the Supreme Court. Although her bail plea was under consideration in the apex court, police arrested her on July 9 from a flat in New Town in Calcutta.
Soon after her arrest, she was granted bail by Barasat court. The order said she had been granted bail for four weeks from September 2.
