Kolhan University will offer job training as well as placement offers on campus.
The new batch of National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of the varsity will get a chance to learn various skills and also earn a certificate.
Kolhan varsity is one of the nine institutes selected by the Union ministry for youth affairs and sports for the National University Student Skills Development (NUSSD) programme.
The scheme will be implemented in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, after an MoU is signed on Tuesday.
Once the agreement is inked, the varsity will have more placement options for its graduates and postgraduates. The varsity has already chosen Tata Power as its corporate partner for this programme.
“The launch of the skills development programme will be a landmark event for the university and open avenues for the students to get hands-on job training. The university is already in talks with Usha Martin Ltd and other companies who will seek manpower from our university,” said Shukla Mahanty, pro vice-chancellor of Kolhan University.
She added the university would first try to tie up with local companies before venturing outside Jharkhand.
For students who are not NSS volunteers, the varsity has another solution.
A varsity placement cell is on cards. Officials are waiting for a notification from the varsity, which is expected to come in a couple of months.
