Guwahati, Sept. 8: Oil India Football Club, Duliajan, lifted the Sohanlal Dugar Shield invitation football tournament trophy trouncing City Police, Guwahati 6-0 in the final at Polo Ground in Tezpur today.
Oil India didn’t face much of a challenge to annex the prestigious trophy.
Former state champions Oil India broke the deadlock in the 15th minute through Birjab Mushahary while F. Wary increased the lead in the 28th minute. Fleet-footed striker Manas Manjit Chetia made it 3-0 in the 37th minute, followed by F. Wary’s second goal in the 41st minute.
With the second half kicking off, Oil India was in no mood to slow down as Mintu Boro scored the fifth goal in the 56th minute.
City Police, who disappointed the 5000-strong crowd conceding five goals in quick succession, somehow managed to keep the Duliajan attacks at bay for some time before Mintu Boro completed his brace in the 84th minute.
F. Wary was scintillating in the game. H.L. Routa who walked away with the Player of the Tournament honour.
Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Kiming, were adjudged the Most Disciplined Team.
Assam Football Association joint secretary Plaban Baruah gave away the champion’s trophy while secretary Ankur Dutta handed over the runners-up trophy.
