Guwahati, Sept. 8: Navajyoti Club kept their title dreams alive by holding Green Valley Sports Club to a 1-1 draw in an evenly contested championship round match of Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy for the Guwahati Super Division Football League at Nehru Stadium here today.
Navajyoti came close to breaking the deadlock in the fifth minute but Ishak Sangma’s strike could not trouble Green Valley custodian Sukanta Roy.
Against the run of play, however, Green Valley took the lead in the 22nd minute through Shabir Ali.
Ali had another attempt in the 25th minute, which hit the woodwork. The remaining of the first half saw Navajyoti players struggling to keep up with Green Valley’s pace but they managed not to concede another goal.
The second half was a different affair with Navajyoti looking a much better side and making frequent inroads into opposition territory.
Their efforts finally paid off in the 61st minute when Khonjeng Kamei’s strike found the back of the net for the all-important equaliser.
Lalduhawma cross from the right flank found Vanlalmuana whose back pass to Kamei saw him make no mistake with the finish.
In a relegation round match yesterday, Assam Police blanked Dynamo Club by 4-0 goals. Rajen Zoya’s brace and a goal each from Lohit Taye and Kajaigek Rongmei completed the rout.
