It’s double delight for yoga practitioners of Jharkhand.
Three from Jharkhand will take part in the Asian championship in Malaysia this September-end.
“On the basis of performances during the last national championship, Anand Kumar and Rahul Sharma from Ranchi and Anushka Karmakar from Jamshedpur have qualified to represent India,” said Asit Kumar Aich, secretary of the East Zone unit of Yoga Federation of India.
Secondly, Ranchi will host the national yoga championship at Khelgaon in November, Aich announced, while judging the yoga championship for the city organised by Union Club and Library in Ranchi on Sunday.
Sunday’s event saw participants from 10 to 25 years divided into five groups based on age. Girls and boys took part in separate categories. As many as 235 students vied for the titles.
Three best participants were chosen from each group.
Children below eight years of age, who displayed their skills at the event, were given consolation prizes as a mark of encouragement.
Besides, top four yoga practitioners — two girls and same number of boys — were chosen as overall champions and runners-up.
Among the boys, Satish Kumar was adjudged the champion, while Shrishti Roy was chosen as the best among girls.
Authorities are trying to host a state meet in September-end as well.
Joint secretary of Jharkhand Yoga Association Sushanta Bhatta, who is attached with Union club and Library, said: “Despite having talents, we face a lot of problems in organising state-level meets. The tentative date for the state event is September 27-28, as we have to get over with it before the nationals. But, it is very difficult to arrange funds within this time,” he added.
In case they fail to organise, the outfit will have to host a selection process before the national championship.
