Shillong, Sept. 7: Meghalaya police have so far arrested 22 people in East Khasi Hills district in connection with the agitation called by pressure gro-ups, demanding implementation of inner-line permit in the state. East Khasi Hills superintendent of police M. Kharkrang said 21 cases have been registered.
Of the 22 arrested, five were arrested from Pynthor and Nongmynsong this morning. The three arrested from Pynthor and two from Nong-mynsong were produced in court and remanded to six and five days police custody, respectively, he added.
More than a dozen pressure groups had called a 12-hour shutdown on Monday, followed by a three-day-night blockade and picketing of government offices. While the blockade ended at 5 this morning, attendance in governme-nt offices was thin.
The groups are likely to announce their next course of action tomorrow.
