Patna, Sept. 7: Police are yet to make any breakthrough in the alleged gang rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl.
The cops have pinned their hopes on the post-mortem report. Ranitalab police station house officer Ranjeet Kumar said attempts to identify the people behind the crime were on. “Till now, the police have not been able to identify the accused. However, investigations are being carried out and a breakthrough is expected soon. At present, the police cannot divulge any more information,” the officer said.
“Once the post-mortem report comes in, the police will get a clearer picture. At present, the cops are talking to the family of the girl in a bid to get some clues, which can be helpful. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of gang rape and murder,” another officer said.
The minor’s body was found at Dhanan Nisharpura village yesterday. She had gone missing on Wednesday.
In another incident yesterday, the Kankerbagh police nabbed two men, who had dragged a 20-year-old girl in their sports utility vehicle, and were fleeing.
After the cops received information, two Quick Mobile teams were alerted and they gave chase. The girl somehow jumped off the car before being rescued.
The police today claimed to have arrested an autorickshaw driver, allegedly involved in the gang rape of an Asansol-based 16-year-old-girl in April 2011.
“The girl had come to Patna after fleeing her home in Bengal with her boyfriend. At Patna Junction, she had a fight with the youth after which they parted ways. She boarded an autorickshaw to go to Kadamkuan. The driver made her sit in a different auto. He and his five associates took the girl to a secluded place on Masauri bypass where she was gang raped. After this, the men left her there presuming her to be dead. The next morning, the girl went to a police station to lodge a complaint,” Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said.
