New Delhi, Sept. 6: The Supreme Court today ordered a CBI probe against Andhra Pradesh police chief V. Dinesh Reddy for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets along with close relatives.
It also expressed shock and anguish over the conduct of the state chief secretary in not complying with its direction to explain whether any inquiry was ordered against the top cop over the police chief’s alleged illegal wealth.
This is perhaps the first time that a CBI inquiry has been ordered against a sitting DGP.
The Supreme Court passed the judgment while upholding an appeal filed by Umesh Kumar, another DGP-rank officer.
He had challenged the refusal of the state government to conduct an investigation into the alleged illegal assets of Reddy.
