An elderly couple’s flat in Salt Lake was burgled and two laptops and Rs 3,000 were stolen on Friday afternoon, taking the number of such incidents in the township to four in as many days.
The latest burglary occurred less than two days after Bidhannagar police commissioner Rajeev Kumar caught most cops on night vigil in Salt Lake napping during a surprise visit.
Nitya Gopal Bhowmick, 65, and wife Shipra, 61, were in their bedroom on the first floor of their two-storeyed house in BH block when the burglars entered and went into an adjoining bedroom that was empty.
“The couple did not hear any footsteps probably because the air-conditioner in their room was on and the door was shut,” said a senior officer of Bidhnanagar (East) police station.
The burglary was detected around 4.30pm when the couple entered the adjoining room. The money was in a purse kept on a table in the room.
“The burglars probably climbed up the pipe and entered the room through the balcony as the main door was locked,” said an officer.
No one was arrested till late on Friday in any of the burglaries reported over the past four days.
Burglars targeted two houses in Salt Lake’s CF and AE blocks and looted cash, jewellery and gadgets worth nearly a lakh on Wednesday, a day after the BE Block house of actress Tillotama Shome’s parents was burgled.
