New Delhi, Sept. 6: The demand to accord official language status to Bhojpuri rocked Lok Sabha with RJD MP Prabhunath Singh raising the issue during Zero Hour on Friday.
The newly elected MP from Maharajganj also wanted the language included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. He said despite assurances from ministers in the past, the language has still not been granted official status. The issue found support from a good number of other members and forced rural development minister Jairam Ramesh to respond.
“The demand for including Bhojpuri and Rajasthani in the Eighth Schedule has been made for a long time. I will convey the view expressed by the members to the home minister,” Ramesh said.
