Guwahati, Sept. 5: Former champions Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club (ASEB) SC eased past Assam Police Blues 2-1 in a lacklustre relegation round match of the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Super Division Football League at Nehru Stadium here today.
With the referee whistling for the kick-off, it was Assam Police Blues who started with their desperate attempts to find the back of the net. Having received a pass from Rajen Zoya in the midfield, Lohit Taye failed to trouble the ASEB custodian Daoga Brahma despite being in a fine position inside the box in the second minute of play.
The powermen, too, had their share of opportunities but couldnít manage to find the required result.
The remainder of the first half saw players struggling on a slushy outfield and the policemen repeating the same saga of coming close and then missing out on scoring.
In the 67th minute, ASEB took the lead through Sanatomba Sharma. Sanjay Boroís pass to Sharma from the edge of the box saw him tripping inside the box but managing to keep the ball on his foot to find the back of the net, leaving AP Blues custodian Kailash Das gaping.
It didnít take long for the powermen to increase the lead as Syed Ansar ruffled the net in the 77th minute. Ansar displayed a fine flick of his head on receiving a cross from playmaker Sanjoy Boro in the right flank.
Assam Police Blues, being haunted by their failure to find the target on most of the occasions, finally scored in the 81st minute through Rajen Zoya. Pranjal Basumataryís pass from the left flank found Joseph Maslai inside the box to set it up for Zoya to shoot home.
