Ranchi railway division has decided to run a special train and extend the services of another one to cope with the heavy rush of passengers during Durga Puja.
Ranchi-Katihar special will run every Sunday and Wednesday from October 6.
The train will leave Ranchi station at 2.05pm and reach its destination at 6.35am the following morning, passing through Muri, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Chitaranjan, Madhupur, Jasidih, Jhajha, Keul, Barauni, Begusarai and Khagadia. The same train will return to Ranchi on Tuesdays and Fridays. It will leave Katihar at 2pm and reach Ranchi at 6.35am.
“Passengers can start booking their berths from Friday. This arrangement has been made in order to meet the heavy rush of passengers during the festive season,” said a railway official.
At present, there is no direct train from Ranchi to Katihar. Those wanting to go to Katihar have to take Maurya Express, get down at Barauni and take another connecting train.
Hatia-Yeshwantpur special, on the other hand, will continue to run on Saturdays till October 26. This train is already running as a special from Hatia station. It leaves Hatia at 5am for its two-day journey to Yeshwantpur.
On its return journey, it arrives at Hatia at 1.30pm on Thursday.
The existing Hatia-Yeshwantpur Express plies twice weekly — Sunday and Tuesday. However, it always goes packed, passing through areas like Rourkela, Sambalpur, Vijayawada et al.
