The state information and public relations department has started work to ready the tableau to represent Jharkhand at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
The department released an ad in major newspapers on Sunday, inviting tenders for designing the tableau, applications for which will be accepted till September 7.
Among the themes being mulled over include dhaan ka gola (container to store rice), the Santhal movement, kuchai silk, terracotta art and jadupatia (scroll) paintings. But, only one of these will be finalised for the parade.
Confirming the development, department secretary M.R. Meena said the ad was released after securing an approval from chief minister Hemant Soren on the probable options.
“While tenders will be accepted till September 7, designs should be authentic and must bear the stamp of local flavour. The entries will be evaluated in a series of meeting held by experts from relevant fields and department officials,” he said.
The official further said that five entries would be forwarded to New Delhi to secure a final seal of approval from expert panel members. “In the first phase, the committee members will suggest ways to improve upon the designs. After necessary modifications, the panel will ask for 3D models of the designs. Finally, a topic will be zeroed upon,” he said.
The tableau will also have 25 artistes performing tribal dances and drumming the mandar and dhol.
Last year, Jharkhand’s Republic Day parade was based on dokra craft and reflected the social, economic and religious identity of the state.
