The decomposed body of a 15-year-old girl was fished out of Karamtoli tank, a stone’s throw from former chief minister Shibu Soren’s Morabadi residence in Ranchi, on Sunday.
According to Lalpur OC Jitendra Kumar Singh, they received information that a body was floating in the tank around 8am.
Later, the deceased was identified as Hema Kumari, a resident of Karamtoli and a Class IX student of a local school who was missing since Friday. Her father is a small-time businessman.
“Initially, the deceased could not be identified as the body was decomposed. Later, it was sent to RIMS for post-mortem. As the news spread, her parents rushed to the hospital and identified her as their daughter,” said Singh and added that the girl was wearing a jeans and a T-shirt.
According to police, the parents of the deceased revealed that Hema was upset when she left home on Friday afternoon as she did not fare well in her examination. But the family did not lodge any police complaint thinking that she would return home. She was last seen near the tank on Friday evening. Her family started searching for her from Saturday.
Police have lodged an unnatural death case. “The post-mortem report will help us detect whether it is a suicide or a murder,” Singh said when asked that if he suspected any foul play.
According to sources, the possibility of murder cannot be ruled out as the tank is frequented by hoodlums.
